Well, the FOC helps a lot. If you use the motor for reverse and brake, you can remove the servo, linkages, brake pads/rotor/etc, but you'll need to lock the tranny into a single gear. The trouble with locking it into a single gear is that I'm not sure the VXL on only 3s lipo will be burly enough to pull the Revo (even a lightened one) geared for a decent speed without the motor, ESC, or batteries getting hot.
3s lipo works, but you'd be better off using 4s lipo or higher and using a larger, lower kv motor. Things will stay cooler and not work as hard. Just my $0.02.
