Actually, higher voltages allow you to use a lower kv motor for less current, so it makes sense. The only way to get high power at lower voltages is to use high currents.
32 cells is 38.4v (1.2v/cell). 120A at 38.4v is 4,608 watts, or over 6HP!!! What kind of MT are you thinking of that needs more than this amount of power?
As long as you select the appropriate motor kv for the voltage being used and gear within reason, there is no reason why 120A would not be enough IMO.
