I think I understand now.

However, in order to charge through the balance taps at 1C, I would use larger gauge balance wires (~18GA) and use better connectors... something like those multi-pin Deans or something like that. Otherwise, there will be too much voltage drop on the connector and/or the wires under the higher charge currents and the balancer might not function correctly. This is why charging through the main leads and balance off the taps works so well.
