Keep in mind that you can always put a clip on heatsink on the smooth can, and from my experience with aveox motors (very similar to the neu smooth can) the clip on heat sink can pull the motor temp down about 10 deg or more depending on air flow.

That would help with gearing issues with the larger diameter finned neu, as the clip on heatsinks can be placed anywhere on the can radially. I am sure that the clip on is not as good as the built in fins, but the neu is very effecient to start with, unlike a feigao, where the c motors with the built in heatsink do keep cooler.
