OK then, it your current PS is 12v
AC (use a voltmeter to verify), go to radioshack and get a few parts to make a rectifier:

High current bridge rectifier, or build the same thing with individual high current diodes.
- Filter caps. A few of
these would work, but expensive. You can get them at various places. Just use something at least 25v and at least 10,000uF total (parallel them to get more capacitance).
Hookup is done like this, minus the regulator (don't pay attention to the component values)...
