If you do end up with the center diff and want to do some hill climbing (and performance suffers due to the diff) you can always lock the center diff with a neat trick I learned a little while back - put silly putty in it. It's thick enough to lock the diff and it doesn't stick to anything so it's easy to remove when you want to un-lock it.
