If he uses the electric or pull start he will be fine. The problem arises fron the gap between the piston and rod, when the rod moves out away from the crankshaft it grinds on the backplate and the channel in the crankcase where the rod travels. If you have a electric or pull start the piece that turns over the enginewill keep the rod in place. However if you convert to bump start you take away the one thing that keeps your rod from destroying the engine
