First of all, welcome to the forums!
I assume a pair of the fellas you are speaking about at your track are Martin(8L) and George(c50)? I chat with these blokes on occasion, and the powerplants sound familiar. :)
Now, there are a few answers to your question, based on your budget. The 9L and warrior combo is a great setup that would be an excellent racee system, but the 7xl is also a great motor, though it is larger and would require taller gearing to make the speed. How big is your track? If it is the one George described, it is actually rather small as I recall? A common mistake is to gear the truck for top end, when on a race track, you use mostly low end to mid range(gearing down the Novak may help with the thermals-the systems we are speaking of will easily out perform the Novak, though). Also, the Strobe slipper is highly recommended(yours will work, but the spurs/pinions aren't as strong and the slipper is not as consistent).
Now, if are talking about the "best" system, there are higher end motors and controllers(not listed on the site, but available just the same) that offer the best in smooth, powerful, cool running. Of course with these setups comes a greater price.
Depending on your track, your truck and your budget, we can certainly get you headed in the right direction.
Look arounf the forums for a bit as well. You will likely get some good ideas and gain some general information as well. :)
