If using a seperate rx pack is not desired, you can do a hybrid system. Use any switching BEC to bring down the battery voltage to 7-7.5v, and then use a linear regulator to take care of that extra 1-1.5v. Wouldn't be the best efficiency-wise, but better than using a linear regulator solely, or dealing with a possible BEC failure...
