I don't think it was too much rpm. Its a bit on the high side for a cheap motor, but cert not more than others have done. Plenty of people have ran 7xls on 4S (about same) and I had a 8XL on 5s for quite a while. More likely bad luck, some user error, or driveline shock or something. Hard to really guess from your post.

I would replace it with a better motor tho, like a Medusa or CC neu or something. They are not that much more $$ and very very much worth it.
