I also like my DX3r. Never tried the S, but the limited model memory would keep me away. I would never use the telemetry either.
If you already have receivers, why not get a DX3.0? I'm sure they are selling cheap right now, like this:

Yeah, it only has 4 model memory, but that along with your present one (if you have one) should give you enough slots. And having two radios is nice in case you and a buddy want to go play - just rebind as necessary. I have a DX3.0 I'm keeping for that very reason...
