Nothing in the RC car world is as strong as a 1/8 buggy. My Losi 8ight takes horendous abuse and just doesn’t break. However, I really like driving my CRT.5 on smaller tracks a lot more than the 8ight. The 8ight is just not as fun or challenging on a 1/10 track. With that in mind I’ve owned 2 completely different CRT.5s.
If you are going to run a lighter 2S system like a Mamba Max and 4600 or a Novak GTB and a 6.5 then keep your car light and use the stock buggy wheels. I’ve run both of those exact systems and they work very well in a stock wheel setup crt.5. Running something like this will require very few if any upgrades for strength. With this setup I run a stock car with spring, piston and oil changes only.
If you are going to run a heavier 3S system like a Mamba Max and Medusa 50x3300 then you might want to go all out in upgrades. My crt.5 setup like this uses 2.2 truck wheels, and RCM extended chassis, lots of aluminum parts upgrades (most important is the servo saver), and 1/8 scale shocks. For additional strength I boil the front and rear arms for 10 – 15 min and use a 4mm upper turnbuckle on the front.
