I guess I forgot to answer that part of the post. Theoretically, if you remove one of the common wires, the charger should simply error out because the readings from the balancer cable doesn't match what it sees on the main charging leads. But, again, it depends on the charger's internal circuitry. Best to be safe; remove the common wire and still tie the appropriate cables together to avoid the possibility.
