I was sold on the Neu 1515 2.5d w/ 5s setup, but the other night I was forced to drop in my spare 1515 1y (castle 2200) and kept the 5s, dropped to a 12t long shank pinion and man she was a BEAST! I rocked on the qualifier, hit 10 laps, and had a chance for first in the a-main but I didn't calculate the reduced run time and my packs didn't make it the full 12minutes (5s 5k) so I ended up just holding on to 3rd place.. luckily I had some laps up on field so as I waited on a corner for the last minute or two after I hitting the LVC I didn't get pushed too far back. My Neu is in for repair so I'm racing the Castle 2200 again tomorrow if it doesn't get rained out.. This time I snagged a 50t spur w/ the 12t pinion and I will use my bigger packs for the a-main. I can go w/ a 4s 9k setup or a 5s 6k setup either should do the trick. I'm not sure if the 4s maybe a touch on the slow side geared as low as I am, but I will give it a shot tomorrow during practice and see.
Anyway gearing is easier for a 5s setup around 1700kv, gearing is easier for a 6s setup around 1300kv, if you are going w/ a 4s setup 2000kv is best, but the 2200 (or 1y is very common and cheap!) but with it you will have to exersize throttle control as you will be geared for over 40 maybe pushing 50mph depending on your truggy and available gearing. If I run 5s tomorrow I will be dialing back my dx3r to 90% throttle to keep my top speed around 38mph.
