I made mention of it in another thread, but there is a possibility that I will be making top-plates and chassis for the G2 & G3, maybe even the G2R & G3R if I can get some original pieces for measurements, out of thicker/stronger materials.
The reason is because a lot of people have been bending the very thin 2mm top-plates, and some have bent the 2.1mm chassis as well. Because of this, I thought it would be a good idea to make some replacement top-plates out of 3mm 6061-T6 aluminum, 2.5mm 7075-T6 aluminum, 2mm 6AL-4V titanium, and 3mm carbon-fiber (3k weave). I also think I am going to make replacement X-braces as well, out of both 6061-T6 and 7075-T6 aluminum.
I am, of course, going to contact Gorillamaxx and let them know that I do not intend to copy their designs, but just make stronger versions out of stronger materials. I am also going to ask them about maybe getting the rights to make the parts that they no longer produce. How cool would it be to get their original CAD/CAM files?
Anyway, I am buying a new CNC machine so that I will be able to produce the highest quality parts possible, and I actually have access to the highest quality materials for free. They will be scraps left over from previous milling projects, but they will be large enough to make all of the parts I want to make. Below is the CNC machine I am getting.
