YEah I think its more to do with it being the Traxxas branded version rather than tower being rip off merchants. The same for all the HPI castle stuff.. eg the hpi castle link $35 compared to $22 for the castle version http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...CH=castle+link
