Wow, that's really open-ended! You should probably start by defining some baselines:

1) What parts are easy to get/in stock at your LHS? Makes replacing things on race-day a little easier.

2) What is your budget?

3) What scale are you looking at? 1/12, 1/10, 1/8? The smaller scales are going to be a little cheaper because the power systems needed to drive them aren't going to be as big or demanding.

4) Are you going to race, bash, or both?

5) What speed are you hoping to attain?
