Maybe they do not have a scale? I can imagine they base cost on a few things, such as material costs, time, and projected sales. Something that is popular may cost a little more, so a great profit margin, which in turn allows for less popular items to be sold cheaper, even if they cost the same to produce.
As far as shipping goes, are you referrring to time or cost?
