The need for a fan, like HotnCold says, could be based on the sytem, truck, tires, gearing, running conditions, etc. Also, as stated, if the combo is selected properly, it is more of a luxury than a necessity. I run a fan on all my controllers, even though it isn't necessary. The $10 is cheap insurance in my book, and cooler is always better, but it certainly isn't absolutely necessary.
