I would also use some 2 part epoxy or gorilla glue. CA seems to be too brittle for a part that will have repeated sharp impacts. But your idea is good. The brace doesn't need to be threaded, any kind of support joining the 2 pieces will help a ton (like a hinge pin).
If you use gorilla glue remember that it expands ALOT. I little really goes a long way. Good Luck!
