I've been asked this before. Basically the problem is structural.
The towers on the Maxx are cantilevered off the bulkheads. This means that the high point has a tough time resisting front to back lateral forces from impacts.
You may have noticed that every generation of shock tower from G1, G2 and G3 the tower has been getting shorter and thicker. This was an effort to limit tower bending or breakage.
CF is lighter but can snap from this type of force. You could go to a double thick tower but then the weight goes up. I like the AL because it offers more shape and profile options (in this case), and considering how small the G3 tower has become, the weight issue is less significant.
