You have to ride the brake a little if one tire gets off ground to get the locked
feel and go. Different angle of the teeth on gears make it lock on more or less pressure.

Yes, torsens only transfer torque with the ratio preset inside differential, but if there is no torque (resistance) on spinning side then there will be no torque on opposite side either (0*X=0).
That is why true lockers (like ARB in Full size world) are preffered for rock crawling and serious mud :)
