I think its because the industry hasn't settled down. If you look at the rc planes, most things are standardized, as is pricing. I know when i go to the local plane shop i can get plane stuff (wire plugs ect.) and pay about half what i would going to an RC car place, Planes have been around for 40+years RC car have been around for only 35 Years, about 25 years real hot and heavy and still going through growing pains and expansion. We are still doing different things where almost all has been done with planes and most have settled and standardized. If things were standardized in our neck of the woods (plugs, Taps batteries ect.) it would be cheaper to
