you have it mounted right, so your all good there, for one thing it will travel that far because you have no servo on it or the rest of the suspension as well, also your steering knuckles will not travel that far either, and I just looked at my gmaxx, and from L to R it comes within 3mm or so from touching the diff housing,( behind the diff cup if you use cvd's or on your case the stock axles, so there is no need to worry about it hitting, once it is all together, get it centered up, then center your servo, then attach it to the proline servo saver, and from there adj. your turnbuckles that go out toward the knuckles and get them nice & straight as well....if you do it in this order, you should be fine.....
