Yup. First and/or second gear have nothing to do with the gear that drives the center diff (it's a seperate gear). I am using locked 2nd gear with a center diff (although it's a custom one, not the stock one).
To lock the tranny, you can either use the little adaptor by b0gh0s, or you can easily do
this mod to do the same thing.
