I agree on the LiPo safety issue - though one of the safest LiPo options out there also saw great ink in the big magazines - FMA Scorpion. It was basically a matched system, LiPo packs, charger which also did the balancing as well as an integrated Low-Voltage-Cutoff. The price was not bad at all and the performance was great. Yet FMA didn't sell well and eventually exited the surface market. (I ran - actually still run their stuff so I know it very well)
I suppose it's hard for companies to pour R&D money into battery products for a market which almost doesn't exist. It's almost like putting the cart before the horse.
