what motor/kv/weight vehicle? the shafts are made from hard inox steel, the strains are pretty straight with the cups right onto it. (not sidewards like with gears) if that's the case; You would need 10mm dogbones too, and even thicker ones to the wheels, since the forces are roughly 4 times higher there..
With a normal gear reduction, the motor is spinning at about 35000rpm, and the wheels at about 3000, so the forces at the wheels are 12 times higher than at the shaft of the motor. Since 8 mm shafts are more than enough on the wheels, 8 would be more than enough for a motor.
