help? 8xl and bk 7018? - 11.24.2005, 12:08 AM

Hi all,

I have a 7018 controller, I want to convert a e-maxx to brushless.

Can I use that controller with something like a 8xl?

I also want to start with the current packs 2 x 6 cells total 12

Will this setup work?
What performance will I get compared to stock setup?
I have hotbodies 7" wheels. what pinion should I use?

PS. If this setup will work, Later I will upgrade to a 9920 and step up to lipos.

If you gear right the esc should be ok. I can run a 7020 on a 9xl with no problems. I would go for a 18 to 1 ratio final drive. Which is about stock.

Peace!

Hey Coolhand,
Hmm,
How would a 9xl performance be on 12 cells?

I was thinking 8Xl so that I would not have to worry about getting voltage up to get any performance out of the setup.

here is a video of a 9xl on 12 cells. They have a device to plug into the wire and tell you the info on amp draw watts and other stuff. I don't remember the name of it. Batfish was the source of info.

Peace!

Do you guys think the 7018 is the best controller for a 9xl? I know that a 9920 would be better, but maybe if you want, highflier, you can sell (if you dont need it for another truck) your 7018 and save up a bit and get a 9920?

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

coolhand, i think your thinking about either the "watts up" meter or the eagle tree data recorder.

I know that the 9920 would be better, Guess I am just cheap... I got the money just don't like spending it. The 9xl had plenty of powerin the vid, Was that 1st or second gear? I could not really tell what top speed looked like, hard to tell in vids, Any idea of how it compares to the stock titans on 12 cells?
