Where is the best place to start if building a TDC57/Jordan style GorillaMaxx? - RC-Monster Forums

i have seen these awesome G3/G4 revo conversion and i love how they look. i currently have 3 BL truggies but want to build one of these Gorilla Revo's this summer. Can anyone help with where i buy all the parts for these conversions? which kit do i get if i plan to do a Revo? i want the carbon chassis setup with as much length as possible.

i plan to do a conversion with all the hop ups etc and prob a 1521 Neu. anyway, i know where to get motors, lipos, etc but when it comes to Gorilla and Traxxas i am new. i know RCM has some stuff but just want to get tips/websites on how to start so i do it right.

any suggestions??

Anyway, the G3r is the Revo specific gorillamaxx chassis- they do have a carbonfibre version since thats what you want- www.gorillamaxx.com and click on the appropriate image.

Longer length or chassis extension isnt available with the revo model, only the maxx version has an extension.

You will also need to get an older emaxx 3906 tranny to use the G3r chassis, and then upgrade its internals to handle BL.

Mike sells pretty much everything you need- chassis, revo parts, tranny upgrades (steel idlers). Buy those, then pick and choose the electricals to suit your specific needs; the revo and BL subforums have numerous build threads so you shouldnt have issues finding more info, but feel free to ask any (intelligent) questions should you have trouble finding answers.

Yes Mike is good guy to deal with. I get all my stuff through him, even stuff that he doesn't have in his shop. Much simpler to get the parts from just the one shop imo. Send the parts list to him and he hook you up, im sure

. Just time to time he is quite slow on answering emails, busy guy. But that haven't been so big deal to me..

thanks for the tips. looks like they (gmax) are out of stock currently of all their kits. i thought i had read somewhere that they were no longer making their kits but i could be wrong.

All of my chassis i bought second hand off ebay and the traxxas forum. People wanted to get rid of the Gmax chassis when the erevo came out. As far as the other parts go i got most of my stuff off of Mike and Amain hobbies. Amain are really good and shipping is really quick.

If you wanted to lengthen the G3R i would suggest getting the alloy version as all you need to do is make a new top and bottom plate from a piece of alloy. You could do this at home with a jigsaw and a file if needed. You would also need to get a longer rear drive shaft to fit. The standard EREVO rear driveshaft would work well as it can extend a fair way. I dont think it would handle being extended and brushless very well. As far as the tranny goes you could always run a center diff and make a custom mount to fit

If it were me I would PM Shaun TDC57 and request some help from him directly since he has experience building what you want. He is quite helpful and always happy to lend a hand. I have gotten lists from him on two of my projects going off of the builds that he had done.

Heres basically the major parts I would/am/will use.

GTR shocks
LST or RCM diffs
Tekno hubs with the 8mm axles (the RD racing is also a option)
Tekno sway bars
Tekno setback arms (if you want it a little longer)
RPM front arms (and rear if no Tekno arms, keep in mind you cant really use RPM arms with CVDs)
I would go with a center diff. Its not to difficult to do.
Traxxas wing mount
Traxxas red tubes

I could go on, but those are the big ones.

Thats pretty close to as good as it gets, but not 100%. The problems with that truck (keep in mind he may not have encountered the problems) is the RPM arms and the CVDs. I had CVDs and RPM arms thinking it wasn't gonna be a problem with the Revo, like it is with the Maxx, but all I had to do was go around a hard turn and one of my CVDs just popped out and bent to hell and back. Another thing I don't under stand is why he got rid of the GTR shock bodies for the stocker ones, along with the RPM knuckles. I would NEVER get the RPM knuckles. Tekno if you want plastic, RD if you want aluminum. Only downside to the sliders is, although you can go with a 8mm axle, I'm not sure you can use the better Summit sliders...

I agree with squeeforever. I have the RPM ones and I think that they flex too much. I have had my driveshaft pop out a few times now. I was looking at replacing them with the new traxxas style after I get good lipos.
