Rebuild, how often? - 03.24.2010, 07:47 AM

I was just wondering how often it would be necessary to rebuild my slipperential under race conditions only? I know it will vary with conditions, but I was just looking for what general wear items there will be so I can pre order those parts.

From a mechanical perspective I would be checking it for adjustment after each race, and completely stripping it down after each weekend event for cleaning and putting it back together like new for the next weeks events. That way you can closely monitor your wear and share your experience/findings with us on how well it does, or maybe what problems you might find. If you see something wearing quickly you will catch it before it becomes a major issue and causes you to lose a race. From what I have read there has not been alot of feedback from a racers standpoint.

I guess it all depends on how competitive you are with your racing and whether you want to win or just show up?

When I was racing years ago, I used to tare my truck down after every weekend. It was amazing how many times i found little things that were not right.

Good advice, I normally tear down my buggy after every race so I'll just take the slipper apart while I'm at it. They shipped my slipperential today so I should have it by the weekend, and that's fine as there is no race this weekend. It'll give me a little time to tinker with it a bit. Haven't ran anything with a slipper in about fifteen years so it will probably take a little getting used to. And yes I am very competitive! Second place is just the first looser

Back when I was racing, that happened to me a lot. There was one guy I could not beat no matter how hard I tried. I found out later that he would tare his truck down after every race weekend, change fluids, etc...and he said that was one of his tricks. He would never get rattled during a race...whether he was in first or last.

I have just changed the drive cup holder front & back. The cups were wobbling already. Now it's nice n tight. As good as new!
