GH hobby aluminium differential gearbox

I just received a GH alu diff gearbox for the E-maxx/T-maxx, and the left side bearing slot is too big for the bearing I had. What the.. ?? I need a thicker and wider bearing. Why doesn't it state this? Anyone have any idea what bearing size I need, or do I need to measure this?

I had issues with my GH savvy bulks, one was fine and the other needed filing to get the bearing to fit on one side...

Maybe they fired the QC guy?

Seems that the bearings I had were identical, and most of the bearings on other (Newer?) Maxx's seemed to have different sizes.

Will just have to order some of both.

And also, the GH gearbox collar doesn't fit the bulks. Integy bulks, though.

Yeah, new style emaxx diffs use different sized bearing on either side of the diff cup- I guess it's assumed the user knows this already ( compare the exploded views of the old and new emaxx diffs ) before purchasing.

Death to integy bulks! I'd just drill or dremel them for clearance..

Yeah I should have checked before purchasing. Or ordered the FLM bulks, but I ordered from towerhobbies and they didn't have any in stock. (I live in Norway, so customs along with shipping price is a pain in the ass.)

Checked the dimensions on the bearings, and ordered some. 10x15x4 and 8x16x5.

But now I stumbled onto another problem. The diff bevel gear doesn't want to sit still, and it seems to move too close onto the diff gears and too close to the diffhousing, if you know what I mean? Then the diff won't move properly. And this with the original bulkhouse. Hopefully it will work out with the new diffhouse and bearings, but would be nice to fix now.

BTW, are the diffs themselves identical in size across the models?

I am pretty sure the ring and pinion gears are the same for all pre 3.3 maxx diffs. Then they went to revo spec diffs, so the ring and pinion should be the same as the revo. 2 different revo diffs, the ones without the center support and the ones with. Pretty sure all of the internals are the same, though, for the revo spec diffs. Old maxx diffs are junk, don't even bother with them.

As neil said, get on traxxas' website and print the expoled diagram for the brushless new style emaxx. It has the best diffs. Some al diff cups would not be a bad idea, and the ones that are tapped for m3 thread screws (you need to have the ring gear modded to accept the larger screws) are the way to go for strength. FLM sells the cup and modded gear, IIRC.

This is why alot of us went to lst diffs. Even in the plastic cases thay are 100% better than maxx diffs...
