wing with a knuckle head - 07.11.2006, 12:22 AM

How can I mount a wing to a KnuckleHead shock tower?

What wing should I go with?

What wing mount and other stuff do I need to make it real?

here is all the info you need including part #'s
Wing mount info
Mugen:
E0404 MBX5 wing mount
E0405 MBX5 wing mount brace
Mugen wing bolts right on, proline needs holes drilled, kyosho wing mounts right on

Random nuts and bolts, 2 of the long bolts that go through the SM shock towers and standoffs (longer, 8 shock version)
The X5 wing mount bolts to the rear shock tower, the distance between the holes is almost identical.

On the wing mount, you need to drill the 4 mount holes out with a 1/8 inch drill bit, and make the holes kind of oval shaped so the mounts will bolt up better. Also, you will need to grind away some material on the bottom of the mount so it doesn't hit the bulkhead.

Now, drill out the threads of the TOP shock tower mount hole on each rear bulkhead with a 1/8 inch drill bit. It's no big deal, if you want to remove the wing mounts you can just put a long bolt through and put a nut on the other side.

Take the two really long bolts ,and push them though the bulkhead, from the front ,pointing towards the rear (opposite of the direction they normally go). Now, measure the amount of the screw you will need to cut so that the bolt will be just long enough to grab the nut that fits inside the wong mount, but not too long. This measurement will vary with bulkhead manufacturers.

Once you have cut the top bolts to length, it is about time to install the mounts. Just find 2 bolts that are about 3/16" longer than the original shock tower screws.

Try and install the mounts. If it won't fit, you may need to sand more off of the bottom of the mount, or oval out the holes in the mount more. Don't forget to install the two M3 locknuts into the slot in the wing mount.

The hard part is over, the rest is pretty simple. Inatall the two posts that go in between the mounts, and then bolt in the piece that thw wing actually bolts to. The top part of the wing mount may bow out, that's OK.

If your wing didn't have mounting holes drilled in it, make some, the hole size is 6mm.
Bolt on the wing, and you're done!
Boy do I love being able to copy-n-paste
you can look for the stuff on ebay.

Pretty early for the pics, my friend.
I'm preparing this for my GrandArk Phase.2 ( modified SuperMaxx).
I have not completed Phase.1, yet. Hopfully a month later.
