Battery Trays Dimensions?

I am looking to convert my 8ight and I need to know if any of these battery trays will fit the following dimensions: 160 x 51 x 32mm (battery details at: https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITED...idProduct=6351 )

The trays I know of are:
1. Mikes tray http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...MFPbatterytray
2. "Standard" tray from http://www.rcproductdesigns.com/
3."Ultimate" tray w/ splash gaurd from http://www.rcproductdesigns.com/

Does anyone know if any of these trays will fit a battery those demensions (160 x 51 x 32mm)?

Mike's tray fits the length, but probably not the width. However, I'll go ahead and add my $0.02 in recommending purchasing better batteries than those you linked. With the $ you spent on an 8ight, it really deserves better than some no-name batteries.

Yes... Mike can make you a tray to fit whatever you need.

And as far as those batteries go... I have 2 of them I bought a few weeks ago just cuz they were so cheap compared to other packs I had to try them. And... So far so good! No puffing or overheating. Power and run times are comparable to my 20C Polyquest packs (just by feel, no actuall measurments to support this). For the money I think they are decent. I haven't tested them with an eagle tree yet to get a true evaluation of the performance and I only have a couple cycles on them, but initial impression is they are pretty dang good for the money. They are a weird size and use weird balance taps (you will need an adpater to balance them with most balancers out there, but they do sell the adapter for like $4 on the same site), but other than that...

I appreciate your thoughts on that and would normally agree. However, their lipos always have incredibly good user feedback. Also, I've ordered some stuff from them before (including a 3s lipo pack) and everything is incredibly high value.

That's great to hear! I've had good luck with their lipos as well.

So do you by chance have any of those battery trays I mentioned? Do the batteries fit, or does it fit oddly or unsafely?

If you are looking for custom trays, you could make some like how I've been doing it for the last few vehicles. It's not hard, but is time-consuming if you don't have special tools. Tools I use: dremel (cutting and sanding wheels), nibbling tool, file, vice, and hammer.

Yeah, I've made a few similar to that myself (of aluminum) I guess I'd ideally have something that surrounds the entire battery (bottom, and all four sides) and ideally a non-conductive material. Basically the delrin or other plastic trays are perfect. The aluminum definitely works... but the more wrapped around and the less conductive the better..

Now that I think about it - duh - you can line it with a a plastic or foam material to make it non-conductive. Some padding would be a great idea anyway. Maybe I'll go with a custom aluminum one.

Anyone know where to get some adhesive foam? Like double stick foam tape - but thicker and only one adhesive side.

Wal-Mart has hobby foam in the craft dept. It's about 1/8" thick, 8.5" x 11", and some have an adhesive backing, and really cheap!

Curious what you used for those super clean inside corners.

I understand you could roughly cut with a nibbler, and then make it perfect with the cutoff wheel and sanding drum.. but I'm curious if you have any more streamlined way to do it (other than by hand with a dremmel).

Also, would you be interested - and how much might it be to have you fabricate one of those for me? For a typical 4S 5KMAh LiPo pack.

Inside corners? You mean the "tab" bends? That's just careful eyeing with a vice. Actually I use a couple of scrap metal bars to keep the vice teeth from marring the Al.

I trace and rough-cut out the shape on a flat piece of metal, trim with the nibbler, dremel sand all the corners, file the edges, and then bend with a vice and hammer (hence the marks on the bottom). If I think of it, I'll drill countersunk holes in the end tabs for the screws (holds the vecro in place) before bending the tabs. If not, I use a flex-shaft thingy to do the countersink. It takes roughly 3-4 hours per tray and it's all by hand. If there is an easier way to do it using the tools I have on hand, I'd LOVE to hear it! lol.

As far as making something, it's really too time-consuming for me to charge a fair amount (for both you and me). I have the ones in the pic for sale, but they are an oddball size. If they'll work, let me know and we can iron out the details.

New Era Racing has some really nice trays, that fit 6-7 cell packs. It fits my 4S TrueRC lipo with a little tweaking and it's only $13! Can't beat that.
