Hyperion charger questions - 03.16.2008, 09:42 PM

I'm ramping up to the lipos finally. Trying to learn all I can . I just ordered a pair of trakpower 2s lipos and the balancer on friday. Tonight I won a quark monster pro 125B on ebay , so I am sure I will be buying another pair of 3s lipo's in the near future to run in my second e-revo "if I ever get either one of them done lol "
My questions are this. I have a duratrax ice charger and an FMA Supernova 250S that can charge 1-25 cells. I also have a 100amp power supply . will those cover all my new lipo charging needs ? I was thinking of stepping up to either a Hyperion EOS1210i or EOS1610i ? Would that be a smart move ? Or a waste of money since what I have will work ? I'm thinking the newer technology might be a worthwhile investment ? Thanks in advance ! Jerry

Your ICE can charge up to 4s lipos, and the FMA Supernova is NOT lipo compatible. You should be able to charge everything through your ICE with no problems. Its a good charger to have around until you decide to move beyond 4s lipos.

There's two sides to every schwartz, he got the up side and I got the down side.

I think I'll just run the ice until I actually need "yea right" one to charge more cells. I bought the trakpower balancer with the batts , I thought I would be able to use the Supernova as long as I used the balancer ? If not, I guess I will put the supernova up for sale since I will no longer need it. Man it's a great charger !!! I bought it a few years back when I was running emaxx's so I could charge both batts at once !! Jerry

You have to use a charger that has the cc/cv charging protocol needed for lipo. Lipos charge at a constant current to a certain point and then constant voltage after that - this is done by the charger, the balancer doesn't do this, its the charger.

If your Supernova doesn't have a feature for lipo, its of no use for lipo.

The ICE is a great charger but I just recently bought a Hyperion EOS 0610I DUO to replace my two ICE's. It does up to 6S and charges A123's too, both of which the ICE can't do. The ICE lasted me almost two years, but it was time to upgrade to something that can do even more now. Everyone seems to be going to higher voltage rigs and A123 cells.
