All I can say is well worth the money and time putting the whole thing together. The MGM160/7xl was a fantastic upgrade for me over the HV-Maxx. Lots of power, speed, and it didn't thermal. The G2 chassis makes a huge difference. I took sharp turns and never rolled the truck. That's a first! All in all, pretty cool. ;)

The upgrades make it fun to drive again. Thanks for the input on what to buy! :D

Any time there mt. Now you know why we recommended it. How many cells have you tried so far?

so far, I've tried 14 cells. I actually used my 7cell EMaxx packs and some custom hump packs that I had MaxAmps make. They stayed put, and I was concered that I would have to reconfigure these packs to work with the G2 chassis. Lets just say the cartwheel on the baseball diamond was a "fair shake". :eek: After running 7cell packs, I'm curious how it would do on 8. The callenge with 8 is I don't have a charger that would support it.

You are gonna want to use the "clamp" part of the heatsink to keep the motor together. I should have included the longer screws in the package for this. The 7xl is a heavy motor and is prone to coming apart if you take a hard frontal impact. The clamp will prevent this.
Glad you are happy with the setup as well. It should run very well for a long time.

Don't hear many complants about the 7xl. Everyone seems to love it. Mt If you redo your packs to side by side the should give a little more umph. I have tried this my self. Just a suggestion.

I have the clamp on the motor now. but I did notice that in my haste to try out the setup and get pics posted, I neglected to put the clamp on. The screws that came with the package were not long enough, but I had some that are 20mm long. I still want to buy longer screws though.

I ran the truck quite a bit today. On the rear tires, I keep breaking the tires loose from the rims. Will I need to keep redoing the CA glue bond in the bead? What is the best way to clean up the old CA on the tires and rims?

Coolhandcountry, if I reconfigure the packs, it means I can't use them in a stock chassis. But at this point, I'm leaning towards changing. I got the HV-Maxx back from Novak recently, but I have no use for it now. Now I just need a buyer for it :W:. On the packs, they are 7cells. Will buying a couple new cells of the same to extend them to 8cells be OK? I don't use them for racing at this point, although with this setup, I would sure like to try.

As long as they are the same battery. If you know what I mean. I went to the bead locks for holding tires to rim. I used to put the glue on to before. That was the only way they seemed to hold. Sounds like you really happy. I glad you are. Keep me posted on progress. What kind of rims your running? After I got up some I found that the hexes and the wheels did not like the high horse power. I went to the 23mm hexes. Limited the wheel choice to a point but you can take them off for regualar wheels(14mm). Something you may want to consider.

If you bought the motor and heatsink at the same time, I would have included the proper screws(perhaps they were thrown away with the packing material?). Anyways, I am glad you are enjoying the setup!

I just checked the hexes, and they appear to be holding up. I've been running the Traxxas aluminum wheel hexes since I first got the HV-Maxx. As for the tire/rim combo, I am running the E/T Maxx Bow Ties (not 40's) with RPM Monster Clawz StableMaxx. I'm posting under PreSales about the bead-locs. Thanks for pointing out that option. Are you saying you had to glue even with the bead-locs?

I didn't notice them if they were. I did find the gold connectors and pinion packed with the motor. There were screws shrinked in the package. Any way, no problem. What length should I have found with it? 3mm x 22 or 25?

Is it likely that the 7xl/MGM 160 has cut the runtime of my packs in half compared to the HV-Maxx? I believe it to be since the amp draw is probably more.

The shrinked screws come with all motor heatsinks, but if a motor is ordered at the same time, I tape the proper size screws to the package as well. For the 7xl, I include 20mm or 25mm screws. 22mm would probably be the ideal size(but I don't have this size!).
You may get less runtime, depending on your gearing. The performance/runtime work together. If you gear lower, your runtime will increase and your top speed will decrease.

Did have to glue nothing with beadlocks. had to put a good amount of blue on with regular rims. I only glued one side at a time. I find that when you do both you seem to pull the bead loose as the glue is drying. Just a suggestion. The bead locks are a little heavier. Not sure how weight concerned you are. You have a piece of aluminum on the out side of the proline commando series. They seem to be pretty touch. I ran the stock plastic hexes on my 7xl. they did not hold up. Just thought I would point out some problems I had when I went to power over Novak.
