Ceramic Ball Bearings - 09.08.2005, 02:48 PM

Ok, basically i need to know a couple of things here:
1. how much do you guys typically spend for ceramic ball bearings
2. ceramics are lighter i know, are the more concentric also?
3 can anyone with ceramics weight them versus a steel bearing of the same size so i can see the weight savings?

I ask all this cuz i am thinking of putting them in my racing transmissions but i really want to see the savings versus costs.
thanks

Just get rubber sealed bearings, remove the inner rubber shield , and fill them with thin lubrication.. Smooth as possible and saving you about 50-150 dollars..

i can get some at a decent price...i just want to know what the weight is so i can estimate rotating mass savings.

Well, most ceramics would cost you 100 dollars and they surely weigh less than steel bearings, but I dont really know how much( some says 40% lighter and its possibely true). The real thing about ceramic is SMOOTHNESS , RUST RESISTENCE and ITS ORIGINALLY MADE FOR HIGH PRESSURE FORCE( aka brushless and nitro) I've tried it once and then I've never let go. They are truely what they claim. However, do not expect any noticeable increase in speed and performance, but you can expect a more of longevity in terms of life and consistency.
