Novak Power Capacitor with R1PRO - 06.30.2008, 07:42 PM

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKKN3&P=7

I found this cap at towerhobbies from Novak.

It seems decent. 2700uf and 25v. Looks perfect for 4s on the R1Pro.

I'll be getting one.

What about you?

Thanks,

Al :)

A lot of people use these, you can also just buy the cap itself and put it on. I (along with everyone else I think) would recommend the panasonic FM series caps because of there extremely low ESR. I run a 35V 1800uF on my mamba max.

The panasonic ones are cheaper, too. I just want to check out this one myself.

Thanks for the input, Sam!

Griffinru the guy who does modd's to the MM told me to use a 35volt capacitor when running 4S.

I think that 25v is more than enough for 4s. Tekin themselves recommended a 2200uf, 25v capacitor for 4s setups and bigger ones for 5s and 6s.

25V rated capacitor can be used for 4S applications, but I do not recommend doing this.
Price and parameters wise there is no saving, but there are benefits running 35V rated capacitor with ESC's capable running at higher voltages. In addition, the higher the voltage rating, the longer the capacitors life, unless you plan to replace them as tires...Not to forget running in hot environments stress this ratings further.

Bottom line rules:
To properly select capacitor voltage ratings user must add 25% to the operational voltage (including high voltage spikes due to the backEMF) and select capacitor with rating higher then calculated value.

4S LiPo -> 4*4.2=16.8 -> 16.8*1.25=21V -> 2-3 volts for spikes 21+2=23V
Based on this calc, capacitor rated for 25V would work fine, but with small safety margin. By the way this ratings usually at 25 Deg C, with Temps going up rated voltage goes down.

5S LiPo -> 5*4.2=21 -> 16.8*1.25=26.25V -> 2-3 volts for spikes 26.25+2=28.25V
25V rated capacitor would fail in this application.

The Same capacitor at digi-key cost much less.

But I would use this.

Problem is that I've already ordered one...

Too bad you did not chime in earlier.

Thanks, though, Artur!!!

can it be any low esr capacitor? There are some new types of them... F.E.:
Rubycon 1500µF/35V size in mm 12,5X30, RC=3,45A (punch current) Z=13mΩ (long life 10000h, 100kHz) catalogue 35ZLH1500M
?? I want to use it in 6s a123 r1pro.

Hard to say for sure, but that pic looks like it is just the cap, no other gadgets.

No this is the one attached you a board which has additional transient supression.

The module includes an 1,800µF power capacitor rated at 35V and includes two transorbs to reduce ESC temperatures and provide protection for the ESC. These are actually the same mods that Artur does on his Stage 1 MM.
