brushless help - 06.29.2008, 10:30 AM

hello.
i am new here and i have a e-maxx 3905 full stock that i want to convert to brushless..

i have already see many optionīs like single vxl, v-twin, novakīs.. etc and the list goes on....
i am not very experience on assemble brushless motors and escīs so until now the best option i could find was:

this motor:
http://global.ebay.com/gbh/viItem?ItemId=160255613184
a feigao 7xl that is great for e-maxx..

and this esc:
http://global.ebay.com/gbh/viItem?ItemId=370041594514

i choose this esc because is cheaper than otherīs like mmm or kontronikīs etc... and because come with a useful digital programing card and have reverse and bec, etc...

i have 2 packīs of 7cells 4300 nimhīs bateries that i have to wire in serie, so with this motor and esc connect on 14 cells will i have a good and durable brushless combo?

my intentions are 80% bashing and 20%track..
and i canīt spent more than 150 dollars for now..
i am thinking going this kit because single vxl have heat issues and the esc is limited to traxxas motors , and novak is limited to novak too, so i prefer to invest is something upgradable..

give me your expereince opinions and if i will spent my money good on this parts!!

regards and thankīs in davance!!

7xl on 14 cells would run very hot, id atleast look into a 9xl or lower kv motor from what other have said to keep temps down. as for the esc i have no idea, they had a thread going on that esc, i dont remember what the verdict was on it, but one thing you gotta remember you get what you pay for in the end.

Monster Trucks need more torque, the 7XL will get hot quickly unless you gear it for really low, I would run a 8 or 9XL...the larger the number the more winds it has and the cooler it will run but will run slower you compensate with more voltage.

Low KV + High voltage = happy and cool running system

and this is your system will be pulling a certain amount of watts and if you are running higher voltage it will pull less amps, and amps = heat, gearing can come into this also if you gear too high it puts more starin on your motor and that will cause heat also.
Feigaos also run hotter so it will always run pretty warm no matter what you do, but you dodnt want it so hot you cant keep your finger on the motor for a few seconds

with your max I would go with a MM with the on board BEC disabled with an external BEC hooked up, 4s lipo 9XL feigao motor, if you cant afford that much now I would wait till you can

Just because the seller says "One of the Best brushless motor for 1/8 size monster truck", does NOT make it suited to 1/8th monster truck. The largest I would run a 7xl in is 1/8th buggy, and only that if it's a pretty lightweight buggy.

9xl will be much better, as rootar said, although 8xl might do ok, depending upon your final weight. Feigao's are cheap motors, and they get hot. I've begun to think that the xl series in general are not suited to 1/8th scale MT, unless you can do very low KV motor on HV LiPo.

i have read the topic here about this kind of escīs and they disapoint people....

so... for my 2 nimhīs packīs sholud i get anything else?
single vxl continues on my mind but heat is a problem too...
but working at 8.4v in my e-maxx will be very slow....
novakīs are very expensive too....even on e-bay...

what should i buy with 150 dollars for put my e-maxx a litle more fun and faster than stock?

i donīt want a big or brutal truck, only a litle more torque and speed for bashing better!!

i have also read that bk warrior escīs donīt need to be programmed.
what other escīs work this way?will be much more easier just plug and play..

regards

thankīs to all!!
