Fan on the MMM V1/V2 - 08.14.2008, 01:42 AM

The ones that i know of that are working (V1) on and on and on made one mod, that was to remove the fan and do the open case mod.... i know this will void the warranty, but it seems that the MMM doesnt break down..... the only thing is that one shouldnt gear to tought when you dont have a fan.... The 2 i know of that has been driving their MMM v1 without problems has them in 1/8 buggys geared at about 35mph.... The temps are very low on the esc, maybe 50 degres centerade. This is without a fan......

I know that the V2 has some kind of fan-control so the fan does´nt start if the ESC i´snt hot enough.
BUT what will happen if you have been driving for while, the esc gets hot, some dirt is in the fan so the fan is stuck, will the internal BEC on the V2 go up in smoke?

i doubt it. another advantage of running a clear body :P

the fan shouldnt cause any huge draw, it will only fail if there is something else wrong (IMO)

I would hope the fan would just burn out before the bec. I would think it would.

I sure hope so.... a fan is weak at start-up, so it doesnt take allot if the fan is about to start and there is dirt or something else preventing it to start..... therfor i want some kind of conformation from someone from castle that this will not cause a breakdown for the internal BEC on the MMM V2....

Well, I have a v1 that is still working. I'm not using it at the moment because I got a v2 replacement for my 1st v1 that failed and I wanted to test the v2. My fan did go out on my v1 but I didn't void the warranty, just removed the fried fan and tie strapped a Novak fan to the top of the case (btw I run it in a 3905 Maxx geared 20/58 and 20/68 at times). Anyway, I was running the v2 the other day and I brought it in to check temps and there was a blade of grass stopping the fan from running. I don't know how long it was in there or how long the fan was actually attempting to run with it like that but as soon as I pulled it out it was aparent that the fan was on. I have run 4 full packs through it since then and the fan and bec are still going strong. I think that after the v1 bec episode that Castle did there howework on the redesigned bec so any problems with the v2 will probably be from user error, the cheap fan going out and causing them to overheat or the fan wires being pinched between the board and case. That's just my 2 cents so don't hold me to it.
