48pitch to 32pitch gear conversion; mm heating issues - 08.28.2008, 11:21 PM

hello everyone, i'm new to the RC-Monster Forums. I recently did a 32pitch spur & pinion conversion on mm stampede and now i'm having heating issues with the mm esc. Does anyone run this setup? What gears(32pitch) are you r
running to keep your rigs cool.
ESC; MM (no fan) temp 168F
Motor; MM(5700) temp 129F
Battery; 3s1p 12c SPC 5000mah 11.1v
Gears; 13/58

What gearing were you running with 48p? Did it run cool with the 5700 on 3s?

I was running 16/90 gearing with 48p, esc temps was around 120F-130F , motor temp was 150F-160f after 8 minutes of hard running . Then let it cool off for about 4-5minutes, check the temps then run again. All this with 3s lipos.

16/90 is a 5.625:1 ratio.
13/58 is a 4.46:1 ratio.

Makes sense things are getting hotter since you lowered the ratio (by a substantial amount no less). To get the same ratio with a 58T spur, you'd need a 10T pinion.

Brian I think you meant 10T - Going from 13/58 to 13/58 isn't going to do much... ;)

What are you talking about? I put 10T. (A love being a mod sometimes)
