How much power from a BEC? - 09.12.2008, 12:20 AM

I have a BL Losi Muggy (used Mike's mount and it fits like a glove!) and I am in need of a steering servo for it. My Hitec 985 might work if I move to the innermost hole on my servo horn, but I still think it will be too weak. I went out in search of a better servo and found THIS. That is a VERY impressive servo, but I'm worried that it will pull too much power out of my BEC and burn it up. I am currently running an MGM 16018 but that is going into my Hyper and I am going to get another ESC for the Muggy (probably MMM, I know they're problematic now but I have confidence CC will get it right) and I just want to make sure I'm not going to burn up ESCs if I go with this servo. It wouldn't be too much of an inconvience to run an Rx pack but that would be just one more battery to charge and eventually replace and I don't want to go with an external BEC right now.

that and the hitec 7955tg are good servos. I don't thing it should overload the bec but I don't know. I have killed a bunch of MMMs though with my similarly speced 5955tg installed.

Savage: FLM Conversion, 6s, MMM, CC 1520.
Mini-T Pro: Micro Pro 6800kv, Lipo, HS-81mg, Dirt Hawgs
M18MT: Quark 33A, Y22S 6000kv, FP 2s Lipo
LRP S8-BX: RC-M Conversion, Tekin RX8 B1600KV, 6S.

The link doesnt work to the servo for me, but the CCBEC has enough power to run any single servo. No worries. Even the BEC built into the MMM will be fine once they figure out whats wrong with it.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

It is possible to run a UBEC to each servo. Just leave the signal and ground wires intact in the servo plugs, but pull the red wire from the servo plugs and wire that to each UBEC.

That's actually the servo I was going to use until I found the JR.

I could run an Rx pack, but then I'd have to mount it somewhere and it's another battery to charge. I'm not too fond of the idea of wiring up a BEC. I really wish servo manufacturers would post amp-draw information on their servos....
