Losi 1/8 ESC - bad experience ... - 09.25.2008, 03:06 PM

Today I received the Losi 8ight-e here in germany ... sadly the ESC stopped working BEFORE the first run outside...
I connected the 5s lipo and drove some seconds in the house - suddenly the car went to full throttle , hit my leg and awful smoke came out of the ESC ...

I think this ESC behaves like a MMM. --- I called Horizon Hobby customer support - they told me to return the damaged part.

Luckily I have a Kontronik Jazz 80 and a MGM 22418 at home so I will try the rest of the car this weekend...

Nooooooo!!!! Say it isnt so.

I had my fingers crossed that this would be good. Hopefully this is not the regular experience.

I think there is another problem with this ESC - it is rated for 160 A max...
but as you can see they use 3,5mm plugs which handle 80 A max. For a real racer this ESC is crap - I hate to say that.

I can see possibly soldering some 10 or 12 ga wires into the 3.5mm sockets and then putting real bullet plugs on the end of the wires. Thats what I did on my Lehner motors that have 3.5mm sockets on the back of them also. Works great on the Lehners.

DOnt tell me its another esc than needs to moded to run well.

Can you measure the battery tray. How big is it on the inside dimensions? Just curious as to what size pack can fit into the tray.

Too bad about the ESC... hopefully that isn't the result most people will have with it. How securely is the battery tray mounted? How many screws are used to hold it down. Do you find it very convenient having the single screw to adjust gear mesh?

Anyone measure the rotor up on one of those motors yet? The other dimensions would be nice too . I want to see how close ther are to the neus.

I also have one on pre-order from A-Main.

I don't guess I'll cancel my order, but I hope they can get it straightened out.

Boy, I'm getting deja-vu all over again.

I feel like I've said that before about some other controller.

I wonder how it will hold up with a 2600+ kv Neu?
