my new cheap rc -
10.20.2008, 01:05 AM
i got tired of parts failing on my hyper 7, and just dumping money into it, so that'll go up soon, but i needed something to play w/ in the meantime (that's a really weird word..). i bought linc's tc3 w/ a feigao 380c 7s, at ihobby, bought a 3s 4000mah lipo off Dan @ True-RC .. moved my reciever, ubec, quark 125b, and 333oz/in servo (LOL) from my buggy and my new tc3 is ready to go..
I played w/ it a little but it was 10pm and under a street light.. and at 40% epa.. and it was too fast heh. I need to tighten the diffs, and I'll try and get a video w/ some gps numbers. not really wanting to go extremely fast.. 75 will make me happy, and i'll run it at 50-75%epa when I race.

good luck with your new car, BUT, I gotta say, I too have a hyper 7, and I've beat the living piss out of it! I mean, just hundreds of flips and jumps and stuff, and all kinds of flat out ABUSE. And as far as I can recall, NOTHING has ever broke!! I love that car!!
Did yours come RTR, or did you assemble it? Or did you pick it up used? I asembled mine. oddly though, the car I had before that (and OFNA ultra lx comp), came RTR and was always broke!

The hyper buggies are much better than the other ofna products. Hobao makes the hyper line, while hong nor make the ultra/jammin stuff. I have both and really think the hyper are vastly superior. I currently have a hyper8 and a hyper st and they both seem like great vehicles.

it was bought used as a hyper7 pro. so far, I've broke 3 drive shafts, two of my lsp diffs, an aluminum knuckle (cast alu), and lots of various arms, arm holders, c-hubs, and ect..
I think the problem is my hyper's a fat cow.. if I go 1/8 buggy again, I'll get something LIGHT. that will hopefully solve at least my drivetrain breakage, and should help w/ crashes in general.. I'm still keeping my LSP, actually working on a new drive train layout for it. I'll get to use our 3d printer at work to make the mounts.. but that's a ways off.
one thing.. when I ran the tc3 last night, it had a noticeable click.. accelerating, and coasting. I brought it inside, and took off the pinion, and it doesn't make the click when I roll it on the floor.. anyone have any ideas? even though it made clicking noises, the drivetrain was still very free..

Your guys "cheap rc's" are a little more than my cheapie! I figured I'd pick up something to play with when my V-Twin Maxx breaks so I picked this old RC10B3 off craigslist for $50. Didn't come with batteries and came with mis-matched Tx/Rx(27mhz Tx and 75mhz Rx) but I threw an old TQ system on it and its great fun. I was suprised to find out the cheap Duratrax Streak ESC(foward only) is 10 cell NiMh capable and has a 12t limit. I threw some 7 cell packs together from a bunch of cells I had laying around and this thing is a blast. The old Epic Green Machine 27t double is great and runs 35mph on 7 cells. I stuck a VXL system on it for about 10 minutes and decided it was just too much on 3s LiPo. Anyway, for $50 I figured it was worth it.
Edit- I took those pics after I bashed it on the backyard dirt track. It jumps suprisingly well and flat tracks corners better than the Maxx.

The answer is no. And yes, mine is faster.

Nice, some great deals show up on craigslist from time to time. There's a MMT in mine for $150, I'd pick it up if I didn't have so many dang projects going!

Yeah I also picked up a Losi XXT from the same guy for $30. It was complete minus Tx. It ran great, but I stuck a VXL system on it as well and killed idlers in the tranny. They are ordered and I'm gonna sell it when they get here.

got a quick run in today. weather's been horrible.. puddles everywhere. I basically got two high speed passes until what I believe was low voltage cutoff... normally when the bat got low, it would cut out when I gave it alot of throttle, but still enough to drive it back to me.. well I'd go to give it a little throttle, and it'd almost like cog, studder, and stop.. wouldn't even drive it back to me. when I picked it up, it spun the tires fine.. now that I think about it, maybe it was cogging because of the low voltage. not sure, pack had around 11volts when I took it out of the car, and lvc is set to 3 or 3.3v/cell.. I don't remember which. sorry no video, I'll get that when I gear it up and have a fully charged batt, but i managed 48.6mph, not too bad.
