CRT.5 Conversion (n00b warning) - 11.15.2008, 11:33 PM

I'm thinking about doing a CRT.5 conversion but I have no idea what motor to get. I will buy a Mamba Max but I have no idea what motor to get. I'm looking for mid 30s on a 6 cell Ni-Mh. I'll be going Li-Po but not for a while so a motor that could handle 2 or 3 cell Li-Po for more speed would be needed. Also where is the best place to buy a CRT.5 Roller?

Go with a medusa 36-50-4800 and run it with 6 cells, then move up to a 2s lipo. Gear for low 30s with the Ni pack and low-mid 40s with the Li pack. Ebay usually has the best prices.

How would a Mamba 5700 set-up do on 6 cells and on 2 or 3 cell Li-Po? Is the Fagiao 9L a good motor?

The Mamba motor will run hot. Feigao aren't the best choice for motors, they will also run hot. The endbells are only crimped on, they come off during use and your motor will most likely be junk. To solve those problems you can buy a RC-Monster heatsink clamp. However by the time you do that you might as well step up and spend the couple extra bucks and buy a Medusa from RC-M. I run the 36-50-4800, that has already been suggested to you, on my CRT.5. No matter how I have geared it, it has never been above 125*F, If I'm geared high the MM gets warm/hot but with gearing for about 40MPH on 2s Lipo everything is right where it needs to be. Performance on 6 cell NiMh isn't breathtaking by any means but I assure you that you can still have fun with it, especially if NiMh is what you are used to. The CRT.5 is a great little truck, pretty durable for it's size and the speeds it sees too.

RC-Monster RC8T 1515 2.5D/MMM/5s RC-M 4500mah
SC10 MMPro 13.5T 2s NeuEnery 5000mah
RC18T Mamba 25/5400kv 2s lipo + 6s NiMh

If you keep your e-crt.5 really light a Mamba Max or even Sidewinder with a Mamba 4600 will run well. I have 2 e-crt.5s and one is really light and runs a Sidewinder and 4600 and it runs pretty darn well with a 12T or 13T pinion. If you go this route stay with the stock shocks, wheels and chassis, and look for a 2S 4000mah lipo soft pack as a future purchase.

E-CRT.5 Monster - RCM chassis, MM/Medusa 50x3300/3s, truck tires, 1/8 shocks
E-CRT.5 Stock - Sidewinder/4600/2s, buggy tires

E-8ight T- Tekin RX8 1700kv/5S

I'd go with a sidewinder and a small meudsa.
