Lipo Softening? -
11.20.2008, 06:09 PM
Was just running my matrix, with my zippy 4000mah 25-35c pack.. one of the cells is a bit mushy.... it seems to happen everytime a run it. All the cells Hold charge and are not discharged past 3.2v per cell.. when the pack is cool the cell resolidifies(?) and all is well?
Anyone had this happen? and if so did I kill it?

Ive had this happen aswell. Im pretty sure its from to high of current draw. As you said on aim "all the cells are hitting around 135 degrees". This sort of concerns me because on for most lipo packs it says never to exceed 140-145 degrees.

Hey ben since x-mas is coming up you should for a nice ThunderPower, PolyQuest, FlightPower, Neu Energy type of pack. United hobbies has Polyquest packs for dirt cheap.

I recommend neu. The performance is RIDICULOUS for the price, and in a good way

damn...I wish mine just softened when hot. One of my true rc's is now "gel like" even when cold. It has had a ton of runs on it though, so its not the battery to blame.

Yeah, my 3s 4000 PT pack would puff a little... and then cool down and solidify... don't worry.

run it till it pukes. just closely watch it for puffing and heat.
I fly, I drive, but most of all I crash.

If they are getting squishy, you are running them too hard, just a matter of time before they die. I had a squishy cell in one, used it a few more times, but if it sat for a few weeks, that one cell dropped voltage, obviously damaged it.

Can I ask how much voltage it dropped?

Like .2v IIRC, don't remember the amount of time it sat though.
