Losi 1/8 Xcelorin system vs. MMM and a Neu - 11.20.2008, 03:34 PM

Has anyone tried, or is driving, the Losi 1/8 Xcelorin brushless system? their advertising makes it sound really good. but i want to know real world results. can anyone tell me how it compares to a MMM with a Neu motor? its a pretty hard setup to beat but curious if Losi came close.

Ryu James- Below is a copy of what I posted on RC Tech about it.

I've been running one of the Losi esc's on 6S in my truggy.

I have waited to talk about it, so I could get a good idea of how it would do. I have raced it on 6S for three weekends now. It preforms pretty well. The BEC works fine, the temps are good too.

ONE THING... I run an "electra clutch" system. This is the primary reason I have success. No cogging ever with a clutch.

Another thing is that it has a problem in the area of brakes. I have tried many times to set the controller to NO brakes via PC and it will not even turn down at all. It seems to want to have maximum brakes all the time. This doesn't really effect me due to the fact that I have a clutch set up.

After they come out with a new revision to the software, I am sure it will be a great ESC. I only hope they upgrade the VOLTAGE cut-off, so I can adjust it for 6 cells.

So you're the guy . How is it working so far? Keep me posted because I'm going to be very happy if your ESC lasts for a while with 6S.

Will be running it at the races again this weekend.

Fingers crossed!

Wasn't Losi bringing out a firmware update on the brake problem?

Isn't only rated for 5s not 6s? Just currious, why aren't people toning down the endpoint for the break on the transmitter?

I was actually being sarcastic. I have ran it on 6S using the internal BEC with NO problems, Temps fine, for more than 20 battery packs (approx 10-20 min each run).

Just need to check the firmware update to get the brakes shut off.

Also would love to see Losi up the "cut-off" voltage to higher values (for 6S). I know they most likely wont.

I will continue to update you all as things progress though.

Question 6s? - 01.02.2009, 06:31 PM

Hey,
are there any news about the brakes? does the esc really work on 6s??? how are the brakes in general? I am thinking about getting myself one, I think its good value for money, as long as it works with 6s (with a 1600kv motor) and the brakes are good. I have two 5s and 2 6s lipos.
I am currently using a cheapo 200a-china-esc, which is quite ok, except the brakes.
many thanks

Please dont get it for 6S!!!

It worked fine on 6S (with a clutch set-up from Tekno RC), but Losi does not recognize this in their programming. It will not cut-off at low voltage properly. And this will lead to LiPo failure. If they adjust the software for this ESC, it could work with 6S.

Right now though, it would be much smarter to get an ESC that can be set to cut-off at a 6S voltage level, like the MMM.

ok, thanks. I either get myself the mmm or the scorpion commander, which seems to have a car modus and a programming-card. reading lutach's review the esc seems pretty ok. and 120a seem to be suffiecient, at least not more than the mmm has.

for me here in germany it's easier and cheaper on the bottom line, to order such things in HK thean in the states.

The car mode in the Commander doesn't work properly. The unit I received only had reverse working and I had to add a heat sink to keep it from over heating. Its a nice ESC specially being what seems to be the first with a switching BEC, IR Programming.
