I've been (kinda) looking around for a Rally style car. I don't know a lot about them or what they may be called unless it says Rally in the description. There are a lot of cars out there it seems, but most of them appear to have some odd abbreviations in the thier titles. They may be rally cars but I don't know. Anyone got some info about rally cars or what is available today. Once in a while I see a HPI Super Rally listed on ebay. I also found on the ultimate traxxas site they have a conversion for the 4-tec to make it rally. Any help or input would be appreciated to help me research these types.

Would the 4-tec make a good rally car? I would guess the RS4 3 Evo+ might be used as a platform to convert. Would they make a good conversion? Thanks guys.

I used to have a Kyosho rally car, this was in like 1998. It was basically their buggy at that time with rally tires on it and shorter shocks and a Rally car body.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6dWlgNM4hg horrible video but thats what I had.. You could make a cool one out of a buggy, some nice wheels and tires and a rally car lid on it.

What specifically makes a rally car? I would think it's just a matter of using something like an Ofna GTP (or any on-road), increasing ride height a little, finding tires with some tread, and getting a typical rally car would be all it takes...

Tamiya makes a DF-03Ra based on their DF-03 chassis, but with touring car arms. It looks kind of fun, I've actually been contemplating buying one.

I have one, and it's a good bit of fun :) With a Peak 21*2 in there it's quite solid in the rough.

Thanks for the help fellows. I searched for rally and not a lot of them were around. When I found out the WRC stood for. I did a search using those and more came up. Don't see anyone making a 1/8th anymore. Mainly 1/10th and it seem the main two are the tamiya and the cen.

Jayjay that looks like it moves pretty good in the video.

Got a watch on a couple of the older styles so will see in a couple of days if I can get one. There is a RS4 Super Rally for sale and there also is a Tamiya Subaru Impreza WRC ’99 TGX-MK.1TS Nitro 1:8th for sale but don't know if I want to spend that much more for a 1/8th scale.

OK, for those of us that don't feel like doing the research you did, what specifically makes a rally car? Tires? Suspension?

It's just a matter of taking a 1/8 buggy of your choice, and getting a 1/8 onroad body of your choice and sticking the two together.

btw the dimensions on that rust read as a 1/8th. Width was not changed, length was extended a inch.

Haven't gotten all the details figured out. Did find out that WRC stand for World Rally Car or Championship. From the little I've picked up so far. The Rally conversions have you replace some parts like longer camber links and some arms so the Rally seem to be wider and the shocks are either replaced (and shock tower on the TC3) or a longer shaft is installed and the tires are larger. Basically give you more ground clearancve and the suspensions impoved for rougher terrian. I'll post more info once I learn more about them. I am limited around my place for running a Touring car. I've thought about getting a 4-tec of the RS4 evo but unless they are capable of going on some rougher dirt roads. They would end up shelf queens. There's a few paved road but they are too busy to mess around on. Mostly have dirt roads where I go.

I had the same urge for a rally style car. With 1:10 cars you get a fair choice of realistic looking rally bodys, but those small tires limits their usability to tarmac and well preperad offroad tracks. There is a small amount of 1:8 rally cars: Kyosho Inferno GT, Thundertiger EB4S2 Rally. They are based on buggy chassis but feature reduced shock travel way. Not ideal for rougher offroad tracks. I decided to convert my old 1:8 Crono buggy to get full buggy offroad capabilities, made custom mounts for a rally body i got off ebay. In my opinion this is the best way to get a rally style car which can also be driven on rougher offroad stuff. The hard part is to get suitable bodys. You can find a fair amount of 1:8 touring/Rally car bodys at this place. Problem is: they usually are built for onroad use and might have to be reinforced to withstand hard offroad use. Wheelbase might also differ slightly from the one of your buggy chassis: some trimming will be necessary.
