Nitro w/ Super or Turbo Charger - 02.13.2009, 06:06 AM

I ran across these nifty lil devices and was wondering if anyone had put these on and if so is there some "forged internals" that need to be used?

Seriously though whts needed to make them run properly?

I think it would be cool to add a FI R/C Car to my already Super charged Vette and Turbo bike fleet...

They're a great way to make your engine run lean and burn it up. Superchargers on 2 stroke nitros is a bad idea, and a waste of money for sure.

As with any forced air item you have to increase the amount of fuel used to make more power. I have not played with one, but generally view any nitro mod as a waste of money compared to electric. Except for the buku variable exhaust system, that seems to be a good idea.

And with the money spent on the turbo, plus the initial cost of the engine, you could have purchased a much bigger motor.... or most of a brushless conversion.

With a motor designed with specific crankcases, ports, timing and exhaust it would work fine. Alas there is no such motor in nitro 2 stroke guise, they are all optimised for n/a operation. As it is it just upsets the fuel/air mixture, making it run lean at the high end (which will give the illusion of better performance, at least until the engine seizes), and any chance for boost is lost as it blows the mixture out of the combustion chamber as both inlet and exhaust ports are open at the same time.

O.S and YS have produced 4 stroke nitro engines with spark ignition, direct injection and roots style blowers before, you can find them from time to time. One of those in a Savage or something would make for an interesting project.
