My first 1/8 BL conversion - 02.11.2009, 07:11 PM

Well hello to all and since I'm new to this forum, I'll start with my newest project, a Losi 8ight T. Used a Race Roller chassis I got from a german teamdriver and started out with a MMM & Castle/Neu 2200kv Combo and ofc Mike's motormount.

Setup right now is almost stock, need to get it running for a few packs to start finetuning, weight balance seems ok now. Using a 4s custom made pack with 5000mAh and 25C. Some action pictures to start with:

First run 8ight T
8ight T Wet Conditions

After that run though in roughly 10 minutes my MMM (probably a V3, as I bought it as combo, but no sticker to mark it as a V3) spat out flames then started smoking.. ..fried. I'm using a Spektrum DX3S radio with telemetry, and having only 1 temp sensor mounted on motor it showed 23 C (about 73 F) and the esc was slightly warm at touch.
I assume that I was not running it to the limits. I use a 13 tooth pinion right now with the stock steel spur and diffs. I just got a message drom CC that my replacement esc is on its way to old Europe, but meanwhile I got an MGM Controller with a blackbox for even more telemetry, because it seems to me I'm getting extremly high start peak currents.

Here some pics after the run, still with the Castle MMM in it:

8ight T Closeup 3

I'm waiting for next weekend to get all the telemetry and the new esc fixed to the chassis for another testrun, although right now we seem to be caught in a snowstorm.

I'll update with new pictures as soon as I have it running again and I'll post some of the xls files from the blackbox about peak currents. 1 thing I already can tell after my first testruns on the workbench is that peak "liftoff" currents occuring at starting form a dead stop are in my opinion extrem: 194 Amps were max measured, with around 130 Amps as an average....because this was measured with wheels spinning freely these peaks lastet only for app 0.5 seconds and after that even accelerating more did not draw more then 6-7 amps.

Could I ask what pinion/spur combinations other 8ight T drivers here use for fast offroad track conditions?

Btw in current setup (with those Savage XXL rims and tires I use for testing) The truck reaches topspeed at 72 km/h (44.7 mph) which seems a little high for a 4s setup?

Cheers
