My Losi 8ight T - 03.17.2009, 11:52 PM

After a few weeks or so, I managed to get everything I needed to get her running and have had a few good runs so far. My wife took me down to the park yesterday to give my addiction a flutter, I do love this plug and play of racing around, no trying to pull a nitro into life with a bad back

I was running a 45t spur and 14t pinion with Zippy-H 4000mah, 5s - 25C and I was at 145-150 on the ESC (fan didn't come on though), 135 on the Motor and 105 on the lipo, ambient temps at 75-80, I thought that was a little on the high side than what I would of liked. This was after about 10mins doing a lot of hard take-offs and trying to get to WOT in the field of about 100 meters or so, it may be the temps are right for what I was doing, but I was hoping for lower . I will wait till my 4s pack arrives tomorrow and then give that ago, it's a much better pack (Hyperion 4s, 5000mah 25C) so will see if the temps drop in the ESC and Motor to a more cooler setting that I will like after 10 mins of running with a better lipo, I know it's gonna be slower, but man, it will still be stupid fast compared to my old Traxxas 3.3 rig

My body arrived from an eBay member in the States, thanks jayjay283 for showing us your link, I hope you don't mind us copying your stlye I think it's awesome, so does my daughter who could'nt keep her hands off it and trying to work out what's inside the "car" as she calls it

Anyways heres a few pics to show you the new body and how she sat in the weekend....................

I have said this in a previous post but that was asking for spur and pinion help...........A big thank you goes to alot of guys on this forum for posting about your trucks and what you have done..........it has really helped this brushless noob feel confident in what I have done. Please if you feel that I have done something wrong or something that needs changing to benefit my truck or my performance, let me know, I am happy to change if it makes positive increases

Thanks for looking

Cheers Lito, I've really enjoyed the build, not quite as in depth as the Pred builds but certainly worth it in the end. I have a JConcepts wing on the way to finish the outside off, I just think the stock Losi one is a bit "flat".

How is the Kyosho coming? Have you had a chance to run it or is the weather still a little on the winter side?

whats the kv of the motor....if its the 2200 with 5s your temps are what I would expect, I have the same 8T but I have a Neu 1515/2.5d with 6s. I have a flightpower 6s 5000 and a Zippy 6s 4150 packs that I run and geared 48/16

Yeah it is the 2200, I thought it may run around the 130 mark on the ESC, I am going to try a 12t pinion and see how that goes on the 5s and use a 14t pinion on the 4s. When I have read all the probs that have come with the MMM, one of the common factors is heat so I want to run a cooler setting to get the most out of my investment..............well, that's what I am going for

The intial trial by error and temps is actually not that hard at all, considering the amount of mucking around I would do just to get my nitro in the sweet spot before a play and that took me at least 2 gallon before I was any "good" at tuning. Just need to get a couple more batteries so I can stay out longer and test all areas till I get my happy setup

azjc.......What are the temps you are running on the setup/MMM with it geared for 49MPH, while you are out having a bash?

it is just as bad to run too low of gearing, this will result in a hot motor and a cool ESC. 12 tooth maybe too low. I prefer to run a lower kv motor and if you need more speed to gear up. I run a 1100kv motor in my 10s Revo it it runs very cool even with a 40/20 spur/pinion ratio

Agreed. I have a 13t pinion I can try aswell if the motor temps start to increase more, I should be able to get my happy medium. If not I can try with the 48t Spur and different pinions (maybe a 14t then) to find out what combination is right for me on 5s. Then it will be back to the start, testing for 4s..........I do enjoy the trial by fire though

Looks really nice Man ! That bodys sweet, all 8Ts should get one. We could start a 8T team green lol..Good body, mine hasnt split, cracked chipped or anything (wings another story)......... Only thing I can think of you may need to throw on is LINK "CVD Condoms". Guess some guys have problems with the pin flying out. Never happened to me as I put the condoms on during intial build. (could use some thick heat shrink or something too) also some have snapped the rear hinge pins as a fix ~ drill out and install LINK I have the kit but never installed it as nothings broken.. Ill take some more pics and vids of mine when my MMM gets back from CC emergency room..

Awesome. Yeah the body looks great. Also I run 14/48 on my 8ight-t with 4s on the 2200 combo.I havnt got any real runs in though since I ripped the end off a shock. Though I ran for about 6 minutes of wheelies and the components were not warm too the touch at all. I have a 45 tooth spur coming with the shock repair part since I am only on 4s too gain a bit more speed. I may also go too a 15t pinion.

Cheers for the advice jayjay I have just ordered the condoms and hinge pins from AMain, should get to me in about 10 days. I will put the condoms on straight away but will do as you have done and will put the hinge pins in my kit until needed. One day I will go to the alloy rear 2.0 carriers once our dollar gets better.

Funny thing with that body, as soon as I placed feedback I had an eBay member tell me to search RCBodz on google and check out how he ripped people off and had real bad service (no replying to emails and stuff). I checked it out and sure enough there has been some bad reports, but all I can say is he answered all my emails and questions before and after the deal. He gave me free shipping and kept me in the loop when he shipped the package. I can't complain at all, the only thing I can really say is.......I love the body

I look forward to seeing some pics and vids once yours is back up and running

I had a blast around yesterday with the 4s that arrived, ran for about 15mins and the Motor got to 110, the ESC 120 and the Lipo managed 90, 4s runs great in this truggy that is for sure. That was with the 45t Spur and 14t pinion. I am really happy with those results and the performance was still impressive and like you I can go to the 15t if I need a little more speed. With 5s it is a beast, I couldn't imagine going to 6s, that would just be STUPID fast and pretty well much uncontrollable

after a couple of runs with my 8T I feel like its lacking a little speed for me, so I did install a 18 tooth pinion for my next run spur is a 48 tooth

Can you please let us know the temps on the ESC and Motor when geared like that.

Went down to the track this afternoon and put through a couple of packs. First pack, 4s Hyperion, ran for about 20 mins and had an absolute blast getting to know this truck in track conditions. She drops the nose off the jumps pretty quick if you don't leave the top with a bit of power, caught out a few times in the first lap . Turns nicely off power so far into the corners but would like to try the Smart diff soon to see if she reacts more positive to on power corners. One thing I do like about this truggy is.........they can handle the cartwheels well

Temps after the Lipo went down with the 4s......ESC 149, Motor 150 and Lipo 105, ambient 75 not too bad but a little on the high side. I am going to try the 48t Spur, 15t pinion and see if it will make any difference.

Temps after 8 minutes on the 5s (Zippy) and leaving for half an hour after the previous 4s run........ESC 158 (fan didn't come on either), motor 163 and lipo 95. My lipo's are running cool but the electrics are getting pretty hot and I am not hard out racing, just getting used to the rig and stick around half throttle through the track and hit full along the back straight for approx 3-4seconds. More playing around with gearing to get them in check I think is needed.

Has anyone put scoops on the side of their bodies to let air flow over the motor and ESC? I was thinking of doing that as the electronics are not in direct airflow with the hole in the front window to the hole put in for the Nitro Motor of the stock 8ight-T body............thinking out loud, I hope it's not a stupid idea

I spent my birthday with my son at the track yesterday. We had a blast. After a pair of 5S runs(5K Neu and 6K PQ lipos), my temps were averaging as follows: ESC-104, Motor-128, and Batts-97. AMbient was 64*F but a bit windy. I'm also running a 50/15 spur/pinion combo with 30K oil in the CD. This is difinitely color than my old setup of 10K cd oil.

Scoops? I don't know about that .
